  1. I think that some people are over reaction because if it was the daughters choice to get the abortion, the mother in my opinion was just supporting her daughter's decision. If it was the mother's choice, then I can see were the punishment would be in order. And maybe the law is different in that state. Some states have their law set that says if getting an abortion is illegal or not.

    1. it is legal in Pennsylvania, but the purchase of doctor prescribe drugs are illegal without a proper subscription.

  2. Honestly the mother shouldn't have done this, since she is not a pharmacist, even if she is "protecting the family." The other half of the argument against the account is pro-life or pro-choice, which I feel it should be an available option that is not abused like in this case.

  3. The mother was trying to help her daughter. They should of gone to an abortion clinic, but I can see where they're coming from. It's hard when you have a family and only 1 car to stay at a clinic 75 miles away over night. The mother and daughter didn't know that the pills were illegal. The daughter found them online and suggested it to her mother, and her mother did the research for the drugs, but never found out that it was illegal to buy without a doctors note.
The mother really should of found a way to the abortion clinic, but I can see where she is coming from. She just wanted the best for her daughter.

I'm not saying that she shouldn't do jail time, she broke the law, but she tried to help.

  4. I think that if they had a doctors office alot closer to them and one that wasnt so expensive that this would have never happened. Some people dont make alot of money and when a pregnancy happens that is unplanned it obviously isnt going to be in the budget. The mother was just being a mom and helping her child. Because of her mom her daughter can go to college and work and still be a kid.

  5. Abortion is legal in all 50 states with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade. Some states limit the access to abortion and at what stage in the pregnancy the abortion take place.

  6. I can see why this is illegal. She didnt know what she was doing and if there hadnt been any instructions her daughter couldve died. But I still do think that women shouldnt get abortions in the first place. The woman is responsible for a different life inside of her. "Aborting" the baby is exactly the same as killing it.

    1. Why is it only the women responsible for the life inside her? Not the fathers responsibility? Why does the mother have to be responsible if the father is not responsible?

  7. I feel as though the mother was just trying to help her daughter. I understand that it's illegal to take these pills without a prescription but I think her punishment was a bit severe, especially considering her record.

  8. I think the mother should have brought her daughter to the clinic first and see what options they had before going on the internet and buying pills.

  9. i think the mother was just trying to help the daughter, the family didnt have alot of money to begin with and they didnt really have another choice, she shouldve did more research before she ordered the pills and looked up side effects before feeding them to her daughter, either way.. jail time is unavoidable in this situation because of them not having a prescription for the drug

  10. I can see where the mother is coming from trying to help her daughter. She also should have looked in to the medicine more and if ordering it was legal. It should be common knowledge that you need a prescription for these types of medicine. It is the mothers responsibility to know if the medicine is legal for her to order. It does not matter if you are pro choice or pro life, the mother broke the law and she is responsible for that.

  11. I give the mother credit for taking action and supporting her daughter in a time of need. I don't think it was such a good idea to get the abortion pills right off of the internet but it was better than driving so far away to a clinic when they only had one vehicle. It maybe would have been a better family decision too rather than trying to hide it from the father. I feel like prison is a cruel punishment for that mother to have for just trying to help her daughter.

  12. I can understand that the mother was just trying to help her daughter but i think that she should of taken her to the medical clinic to get the abortion. I feel that the situation should have been a family matter not something that should be hidden because it will cause problems or the daughter is embarrassed. I don't think that she should have to go to prison for punishment.
