If ACGC were to create a new school...

If ACGC were to create a new school and money was no object, how would you design the school? What would you include? (facilities, classes, desk, chairs, technology, teachers, lunches and so on) Just remember that the goal must be to create an optimal learning environment. Be creative! What are your personal objectives?

Everyone must respond.
Post only after you have posted to the previous topic.

  1. It wouldnt change the location of the school but i would love to have an upstairs with different types of classes. Then we could have elavators, or even esclators or i guess stairs. Every class room should have desks, smart board, chairs and every room needs to be painted a different neon color! so its a bright classroom then we can be bright :) the lunch room should have tvs so we can watch and circle tables so you can see everybody that you are sitting by! kinda like the high school musical look. With plants through out the school so we are just clean and fresh school! many more ideas!

  2. what i would like is there to have enough class rooms for all of the classes even the ones that we cut with desks and smart boards in every one. the school would need to be more high tech. it would be bigger and better. there would be no money cuts. new books for every class. like 5 gyms so for practices there isnt always conflict with who gets the gym today or not. better science equipment to help people learn better.

  3. I would probably make the layout similar to this, I like how our school is set up. Maybe more comfortable chairs, those babies take a toll on your butt and your back after awhile. Lunch would be a little longer, or an open lunch. That would be cool, cause sometimes the food we get served is down right nasty. The technology would be that students can bring in laptops or there would be laptops provided, like college almost. The teachers were generally nice to everyone, no favs.

  4. i would make sure that all the sports had all their own practicing places. i would also make sure that all the classes had 15 or less students. i would make sure that there were classes that the teacher tought and independent ones for the people who want them. i would want a desk with a soft chair. every student would have their choice of a laptop or i pad. the lunch room would have different venders like apple bees, olive garden, fast food and so on.

  5. I would want an upstairs added on so that there were more classrooms. There would be a LOT more electives, like interior design, personal finance, etc. Like Buttercup2013, I would love to have plants throughout the school and circle tables in the lunchroom rather than the ones we have now. Our bathroom sinks would have handles so that we could control the temperature of the water, as well as wash our hands without pressing down the button we have now. All the classrooms would have tables because you have more room that way. There would be SmartBoards in each classroom as well. The walls would be painted light yellow. There would be TVs in each classroom, too, so that there could be morning announcements.

  6. Like Buttercup, I wouldn't change the location. I would also build an upstairs (like at North elementary). With an elevator for those who are handicaped, or just don't feel like taking the stairs. I would keep the sizes of the classrooms the same, but make them more colorful so you don't feel like you're in a prison. I think I would also put thermostats in every classroom, that the teacher can adjust manually, but they can't go above a certain temp. i.e. they can't make their room 90 degrees. Agreeing with buttercup again, I would make the lunch table round so all can participate in conversation! I would also make the lunch room bigger, and add more lunch lines like Willmar has! :)

  7. I would have more teachers so we could have smaller class sizes and more one on one time for stuff you dont understand and more time between classes. I would lower ala carte prices. And have more athletes for sports so we could be better along with a new weight room its too small and outdated. and wed have ipads

  8. i would make it so everyone had an ipad and we woundnt have to pay for book and it would be easyer to get aroud without all the books. also that we had a way more of an option at luch like subway and stuff. and i would the school warm not frezzing cold. more alectives.

  9. I would make sure that there was a better heating system, it does get a bit chilly. I would evaluate every teacher and hire different staff if need be. I would build a indoor track and a bigger weight room. i would also put in a pool and have enough gyms for all the teams, so varsity teams dont have to worry about going somewhere else for practice. I would have smart boards in every class. I would have more computer labs, and a longer lunch.

  10. i would make a huge one level school with nice class rooms that get heat and cool air when they want it and there would be no books just ipads for the students and teachers and the arts department gets all new supplies to help the students create their ideas to the best of their abilities. and the teachers would actually teach the students and if they didnt they would be fired and they would not be allowed to pick favorites either. the class rooms would have windows to let in light which gives energy and the lunch food would be way better and we would also have vending machines. and there would be pools for fun and for P.E. and there would be alot more selections for electives.

  11. circle tables would be pretty sick in the lunch room, teachers will have favorites. its not fair it will always be that way. there should be like picnic tables out side so we can eat lunch out side somedays when its nice out! i think escelators and an upstairs would be sweet but for this small of a school it dont really pay!

  12. One level, except computer labs on a second level. I mean come on heat rises so get it out on top. and the computer lab would have Mac's...ya macs. choir and band room better acoustics, and sound proof. Band room to have raised levels so sound is more clear and better heard. Choir room to have more windows...lets energy flow better. Art department to have more supplies, lots more supplies with a variety of classes. Science departments are bigger and lots more windows...to let the smell out and let light in. And for there to be a courtyard in the middle where students can go during study hall or where classes can have a lecture. History and geography rooms to have more historical based examples not all these lame posters. have something they can interact with. I like our english departments...just get them smart boards. More public speaking classes, and classes on how to create a resume and dress appropriately for work and interviews. lunch can have flavor and be nutritional...while still looking ediable trust me its not that hard to do. more time between classes by far!! Oh and a swimming pool ya..i like swimming pools haha ummmm and a larger variety with language classes to be avaliable

  13. i would have more teachers and more class rooms. i would like a pool. use ipads not books, have different choices for lunch, and have a 2nd level on the school.

  14. What would'nt you include.if the funds are unlimited throw it all in,get everything you want!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I agree with the yellow ogre! :D, if funds weren't an issue then why not just have some type of sheet where people can check from a very large list what they would like for the new upcoming school. Then whatever is most chosen can be put into the new school YAY! for everything!

  16. I would create a school with no book every one who is mature would get an ipad and if not they had to purchase their own books there would be different levels in the school each level would be for a different grade. Teachers would have to actually teach and in the cafeteria I would put small restaurant like fancy ones you know like olive garden or red lobster. Sounds so good right now!

  17. I would like a school with a larger Technology Department. And I believe that the Yellow Orge is right, if the funds were unlimited we should just throw in a bit of everything, so every students wants are fufilled.

  18. I would keep most things the same except open the school to open lunch, and improve the teaching around here, because the teachers suck at teaching. Improve the library and technology department.

    1. I wouldn't say the teachers suck at teaching be nice and respectful please

    2. Most of the teachers are pretty good at what they do, although I do disagree with some of the teachers' teaching methods. One way we could improve the libary is if everyone had a laptop/iPad/tablet because books could be bought and synced to everyone, and the technology would be improved if every was able to have a gadget like that.

  19. Small classes is prime...maybe ratio of 1 teacher per 15 kids. Solar panels....ground source heating etc. each class would have 1 teaching assistant. More space… Latest equipment, up to highest standard…best…. Desks and chairs would be comfy, BUT not too comfy as to cause drowsiness. If the teachers are no good, then the education is no good, Must have best teachers in their field.

  20. Make tests fun. Education is a serious thing but must be made to be fun; if enjoyable then people will want to learn. Have to have lids on toilets. Need janitors. Can’t really go too far with cleanliness...no bugs at all causes infection. No rodents. No messy messes.

  21. For making the building, manmade materials...Natural materials need too much upkeep. Invent a man friendly toilet system (privacy with toilets and urinals).

  22. Location is good…. Swimming pool…. Fields for every sport…. more sports…. Cultural intertwinement….. Heavily monitored school technology provided…Computers in Each room…... Have general assembly each Moring...all kids attend… All time gyms and weight rooms…. (Key ALL TIME…early…late…community friendly…)

  23. school…10 am until 4 pm 5 days a week…. 15 min break in morning and afternoon...45 minutes at lunch time… 7 weeks summer break...2 weeks at Christmas and maybe 2 or 3 other 1 week breaks…. Must attain a certain level at lower school to be able to attend Skill.....ability...knowledge etc….. (Talent based…)… Free education….

  24. 2 stories high…with stairs…. Search for illegal materials…. High security systems…

  25. Yes and healthy lunch options...options...and No Fried Food...Grown foods.....Fresh as can be....

  26. i think the tests in the school should all be yes or no answers i know how some teachers love to hear everyones opinion on short answer and essay writing, but you cant deny some teachers have favorites theres always gonna be teachers like that but if you have yes or no answers on the big test it would help a lot i think for other kids.

  27. i agree with all of your blogs Angelwolf, except for the 7 week summer break. i like my summer.but if only this could really happen.

  28. Let's get rid of desks and replace them with comfy chairs and cool coffee tables. Healthy, non-processed foods . Allow non-diet soft drinks in vending machines. Find a way to make the dress code more strict but still allow individualism. Bigger, nicer lockers. I would make the detention/ISS room a more uncomfortable place to be, like a jail cell. I don't know whether Mac is better than PC, but whatever computer systems we're using now is too outdated. Everyone gets a school issued laptop so we can reduce paper waste.

  29. I think if I were to design a school, my first goal would be to provide as many classes as possible, so I would build a bigger building with an abundant supply of highly trained teachers from all different subjects. I would give every student a laptop computer and other up-to-date technology, but I would enforce strict cell phone rules because they are just a distraction (We all know it's true) I would try my best to create an environment that was both easy to learn in and comfortable for my students. Lunches would be healthier (fresh ingredients) and there would be a wider variety to choose from.

  30. I would design this school to have many classes so kids could have many choices of classes that can help them learn for their future career. also i would make the lunches A LOT better than what they are. Also i would wouldnt have such a closed campus style of school. Kids should be able to leave for lunch if they want.

  31. I would have a vote thingy set up before the school's opening like maybe 6 months in advance with tons of things listed that they would want. Then have an area where they can add something that they may not of seen on the list. And anything that promotes the schools education or would help the students learn better would be chosen and put in the school so that students could make the most of their high school career and enjoy it just as much.

  32. The first thing I would change would be the technology. Our school's technology is becoming quite ancient compared to the technology of today. Having new computer/hardware/software would be one thing. Or having everyone have and iPad. Recently Apple has made a huge step with improving education, most notably with text books. The school wouldn't have to spend so much for every text book, and there would be no need for worrying about damages to book. Also, having a wi-fi connection that works with said laptops/iPads would definitively be ideal, and with no crazy blockage. The internet is an amazing place to get information, but when it's blocked you can't get to that information in school. Updated technology could also really eliminate paper waste, as homework could be done on the students' gadget and such, and turned in electronically.
More "home-cooked" foods would be another thing I would change. Sometimes our school lunches can be just downright nasty. And another thing would be that there wouldn't be any minute food shortages. It's happened to me that when I was in the line to get food I wait even longer for more to be made, and sometimes it's not even what is on the menu for lunch. For example, one day was grilled chicken on a bun, but I ended up receiving three chicken strips on a bun. Sometimes the food doesn't look like it has been completely cooked. Another example is from around St. Patrick's Day. It was chicken nuggets shaped like shamrocks, but mine were shaped like Christmas trees, which is three months before St. Patrick's Day.
I would also change how there can sometimes be sudden crackdowns on certain things.
And lunch party. It's hard enough to have to eat lunch in the cafeteria when you are close to being last in line, but when you have to eat and try to work is just crazy, and lunch party shouldn't even be allowed because it's stated in the handbook food is not allowed out of the cafeteria, so there shouldn't be special exception, or no gray area.

  33. I think i would probly take out net books and ipads. we would use a book and paper just like the good old days. tecnology is takeing over and people are getting too dependent on "o i have a question so i'm going to google it." if we use books its not so convenent you have to read and lern as you do. now im not saying internet is a bad thing i'm just saying somethings we use ipads and net books when they are not nessary. we should get a home ec. class, i think it would be a good investment. kids theses days need to learn how to do thing that they may not be taught at home. i also think we should get more comfortable chairs, they should have places where we can work and not have to sit. sometimes sitting through the day is uncomfortble. i think we should get different food choices too. maybe an open campuse.

  34. they both would be foreclosed. not enough money

    ReplyDelete
  35. i think that if they created a new school that they should make more room for more programs like a bigger shop class so we can do bigger and better projects and stuff like a swimming pool or like badmitten or ping pong as an actual school sport

  36. i like how our school is set up but i feel like there should be many more electives to pick from that are more interesting and not so much sitting there for an hour listening to a teacher talk, it would be nice if classes where more hands on. It would be nice if lunch went a little longer and we could be able to leave school to go get lunch so then we could actually have time to catch up with friends that we have no classes with in the day, also i think that the school should get new chairs becase when you spend all day in the school in class you can become sore from sitting there all day. i also think that there should be more space in the school for practices so girls and boys basketball don't have to split the gym for practices and in the spring when there is softball and baseball and its rainy or cold out either boys or girls dont have to go to atwater just to practice, that way they can all be in the same place.
