Mental Illness is a psychological issue for the people that suffer from one of the many illness that fall under the umbrella of mental illness, but it is a major issue for our society. How should society deal with mental illness and people that suffer from mental illness both now and in the future?

  1. I think if we educate everyone about mental illness then build centers were they specialize in mental illness so the people who have a safe place to get the treatment they need or a place to stay or if they need a permanent place to stay kinda like the institution way back then. That or come up with a different kind of treatment to help with the symptoms of the different mental illness barbecue I can speak from experience I didn't like taking medications because i felt like a zombie all day. I also work with mental illnesses like one consumer who has schizophrenia she takes so many different kinds of medications that she looks and kinda acts like she isn't present she just stares at and you at it takes her a while to answer because she is taking so many medications. So I think we need to find other options besides drugs or counseling because for some people it doesn't help them or they are a zombie. So I think it would be better if we explored our options to help besides drugging them or put them in jail.

    1. Maybe have grants or programs that out that help them pay for it if they don't have the money. That or if the person or the persons family could pay for it if they have the money but most of the people like myself couldn't afford to keep getting the medications or treatment that I needed. So that another issue why we have so many untreated people is because of the money. Maybe if there was more programs out there maybe it wouldn't be so expensive so more people that are mentally ill and don't have much money could afford treatment.

  3. First of all, you should find out if he/she has an illness or not. If he or she did send them to a well educated mental doctor with payment from family and friends.

  4. I think that if someone has any signs of a mental illness that they should be tested to see if they do have one so that they can get help. If someone has committed a crime they should have to go through a psych evaluation so see if they should be going to jail or if they should be going into a mental facility. When someone has a mental illness and they are just thrown in jail nothing is going to change with them. They are going to get out of jail and have no idea what to do because mentally they don't know what to do and when they do do something they don't know if it is the right thing or the wrong thing. Most people don't even know they have a mental illness until it gets really bad and they do something to harm themselves or someone else.

    1. Should we test everyone at birth for genetic pre-disposition of mental illness? That why we could track them over their life time.

  6. It's a big issue for our society. We can try to make them live in our society like other people but some problems arrived because they can't follow the rules, and we can't put them in a jail because it's not their fault if they're sick. I think the best way is maybe to create specialized center for them.

  9. I feel like people should be tested at young ages for symptoms of mental illness. Not everybody has severe mental illness. I feel like they should watch the people that have really bad severe mental illness. I feel like they should open back up mental hospitals, I feel like the hospitals would be better for these people because the things they do and learn could be based off of there mental illness to be able to help them. I feel like when you just put them into prisons there not going to get any better and they will not receive the help they need.
