Double-arm Transplant: Soldier gets Second Chance

What implication if any will this hold for the future?

  1. I am unsure as to whether this will have much of an impact on the future. The demand for a double arm transplant cannot be high, but at the same time, this is fantastic news for the select few that would need such a transplant.

  2. Its a good thing that he gets a second chance on life. We are in a way playing a role of god but its in a good way and i think the more life goes on and the more technology will increase and get better more into the future the better chance people will not die so young or will at least live a little bit longer then they have hoped to.

  3. its amazing to think how much the medical field has advanced in the past decade. not only in the field of prostects but in all fields. if we keeps advacing at this rate i belive they will be able to replace just about anything to do with the human body.

  4. I think this is cool because people dont hear about these things every often and and making it through the long surgery and living through it.I think they should do this more often with the people who lose limbs in war or really bad accidents.

  5. We are starting to advance to new levels in the medical field that is hardly imaginable and now we are doing things that could affect me when I die. I don't want my body mutilated and used on someone else but maybe other people do.

    1. When things like this are taken place the body parts are from donors. Not off of random dead people, don't forget that.

    2. Yes I do know that but I'm a blood donor which is stated on my driver's licence and I would love if my organs/tissue could be used post-mortem but I don't want my arm or leg severed

  6. I think that this is a great accomplishment in the medical field. Actually being able to remove the arms from one person and put them on another, and have them work, is a crazy feat. I could see this being a good thing in the future, but where are all of these limbs going to come from? Do they have to be from an alive donor? Can they come from someone who recently passed? Who would want to give up their arms or legs for somebody else? Who would want to see their loved one that passed away to be buried without a limb? This is a great operation but some people will be paying an arm and a leg to help someone and I don't know if I could do that.

  7. its crazy what modern science and medicene can do! imagine in the future when the surgury doesnt cost so much! and then there would be nobody with disabilitys! but ya gotta feel bad for the wheel chair company when the middle class can have this surgury

  8. this huge surgury makes hope for many more other transplants one implacation this could resault in is transplants of far more diffacules like transplanting brains.

  9. If this is successful this could be a huge step forward into giving people "second chances" like he said in the video. Think of this, not just veterans but other civilians that have lost limbs. Whether it is from Buerger's Disease or an extreme accident. You can also think of the money that this would bring in... this procedure can not be cheap.

  10. It's amazing that those surgeons could help him. I cannot believe he died 3 times & is still alive. He should be proud of himself for fighting for his country. Others should be proud as well.

  12. It is amazing that they are able to transplant arms. if it works and he gets full range of motion and feeling back in his arms then this could also be used on other amputees and it might work for legs also.

  13. This is a miracle. he was very fortunate. I believe the outlook is very good and that the doctors can only learn more from this

  14. He has been given a second chance to live his life to the fullest and he probably won't have any problems with it later in his life

  15. I think this is quite amazing! Will science and medical knowledge go even further then this though? Will this surgery be completely successful, and if so who knows what will come next.

    1. First of all, you need to remember your question marks. In response to your post however, I also wonder if any more medical advancements can possibly take place. I find it incredible that 100 years from now surgeries such as these will probably be commonplace.
